TOWNSEND — Townsend Police Chief James Sartell and Groton Police Chief Michael Luth report that members of their departments executed a search warrant at a home in Townsend Sunday night and seized multiple firearms.

ZACHARY ZARRELLA, AGE 25, OF TOWNSEND was charged with:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (5 Counts)
  • Possession of a High Capacity Magazine (9 Counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Serial Number
  • Possession of an Unsecured Firearm (3 Counts)
  • Filing a False Police Report

ZARRELLA is expected to be arraigned in Ayer District Court on Monday.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, officers executed a search warrant at an apartment at 56 Fitchburg Road in Townsend. The warrant stemmed from an ongoing investigation by Groton Police.

While searching the apartment, officers located and seized two shotguns, two rifles, one handgun, and firearm parts.
