TOWNSEND — Chief James Sartell and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office report that a Townsend man was convicted of rape and sentenced to three to five years in prison.

John Zagwyn of Townsend was indicted on a rape charge in 2019 for raping a woman who was known to him in Townsend in 2017.

Zagwyn was found guilty in Middlesex Superior Court on April 9. On April 19, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Robert L. Ullmann sentenced Zagwyn to three to five years in state prison.

“I want to thank the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office for their skilled and professional handling of this sensitive case,” said Chief Sartell. “I hope this conviction and sentence bring some measure of comfort and justice to the victim in this case.”
