TOWNSEND ā€” Chief James Sartell is pleased to report that the Townsend Police Department is offering a registry for individuals with autism or other disabilities to give police helpful information in the event of an emergency.

The registry can provide police with emergency contact information, detailed physical descriptions, known routines, favorite attractions or special needs of an individual. This information can be critical for police while interacting with individuals on the autism spectrum or with other disabilities such as: Alzheimer’s, dementia, Down syndrome or any other endangered individuals.

Participation in the registry is free and voluntary. The information provided to the registry can greatly assist police officers when time is essential in communicating and dealing with an emergency situation involving a person with a disability. The information provided to the registry is then available at officers’ fingertips as they respond to emergencies.

The registration form for the program asks for valuable information that police may need when helping individuals with a disability. Police ask that all questions be filled out completely and a current photograph be provided. If you are unable to supply a photograph, police can take one for you.
