Chief James Sartell is pleased to report that the Townsend Police Department will be collecting toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program this winter season, and hosting a fill-a-cruiser event to further that goal.

The mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect toys and distribute them to less fortunate children at Christmas.

From now through Dec. 5, Townsend Police will collect new, unwrapped toys in the lobby of the Townsend Police station from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday. A box for toy donations will be located in the police station lobby.

Additionally, on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the department will host a fill-a-cruiser event at Evans on the Common, 18 Highland St., as they seek to fill a police cruiser with donations for Toys for Tots.

“Toys for Tots is a wonderful charity that benefits children in need each holiday season, and we are proud to support them,” said Chief Sartell. “We hope the community will support our efforts to make Christmas a little brighter for less fortunate children.”

Toys for Tots was founded by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947 to donate toys to kids who are less fortunate during the holiday season. For more information on the Toys for Tots program, visit the foundation’s website.
