It’s that time of year once again when winter is upon us, houses are being decorated, parties are being planned, presents are being sought, and people are generally busy planning for the holidays. It’s a joyous time of year when many of us plan on socializing with family and friends.

It’s also the time of year where we encounter increased traffic, large crowds, deplorable road conditions, and those who celebrate and get behind the wheel of their vehicles after consuming alcoholic beverages.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge you to allow extra time this holiday season, plan your trips bearing unfavorable road conditions in mind, and if you plan on socializing please don’t get behind the wheel of your vehicle after consuming alcoholic beverages. Serious motor vehicle accidents are always difficult but seem even more tragic around the holiday season.

From all of us at the Townsend Police Department: Enjoy the holidays and let those around you enjoy them too. Please keep these safety tips in mind and don’t drink and drive this holiday season. Your life and the lives of others may depend on it.

Happy Holidays,

Erving M. Marshall Jr.

Chief of Police
