TOWNSEND — Police Chief James Sartell and Fire Chief Mark Boynton are pleased to announce that the Townsend Police and Fire Departments have been awarded an approximately $29,000 grant from the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESFP). The funds will purchase a LiveScan Touchprint Enterprise system designed to streamline the fingerprinting process with less physical interaction by the officer facilitating the procedure. The technology is estimated to be installed by approximately mid-October. “These funds will allow us to limit unnecessary interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic between officers and the public, and we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to make fingerprinting a simpler process for everyone,” Chief Sartell said. “We’re thankful that the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program recognized a need within both the Townsend Police and Fire Departments during this challenging time.” The grant will also fund the online training system One Stop, which will allow members of the Townsend Fire Department to participate in EMS training consistent with best practices and state and federal mandates regarding patient care. “This grant will enable us to offer a valuable training opportunity to members of our department, while protecting their health and wellbeing by providing that training remotely,” Fire Chief Boynton said. Chief Sartell wrote the successful application. Eligible municipalities were invited to solicit up to $50,000 in total funding to benefit their police and/or fire department needs. Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESFP)The Baker-Polito Administration has allocated more than $9.6 million in federal Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESFP) grants awarded to the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research (OGR) from the U.S. Department of Justice. More than 100 local and state public safety agencies will receive this funding for additional resources to further aid in preventing, preparing for and/or responding to the Coronavirus. CESFP awards were also made available for competitive solicitation by state public safety agencies responsible for confronting the pandemic. The funding will assist agencies with outfitting staff with personal protective gear, purchasing deep cleaning sanitation equipment for correctional facilities and academies, utilizing video technology to conduct hearings remotely, and obtaining materials to reconfigure office space to enhance social distancing and protect essential workers. ###
