Chief James Sartell and Superintendent Brad Morgan are pleased to announce the Townsend Police Department and North Middlesex Regional High School partnered to help support patients and raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Chief Sartell reports the Townsend Police Department distributed all 100 of the pink police patches it offered the community during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the department is now working with North Middlesex Regional High School to help even more.
Townsend Police partnered with the PINK Revolution Breast Cancer Alliance of New Hampshire, a non-profit organization based in Brookline, N.H. that supports cancer patients in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont, to offer pink patches to the community in October.
Funds raised by Townsend Police pink patch sales went to the non-profit to help fund Chemo Care Packages and gasoline gift cards for local cancer patients in need.
“I want to thank all of the officers and community members who helped make the Pink Patch fundraiser a huge success. We quickly distributed all 100 of the patches we had,” said Chief Sartell. “But in an effort to continue helping even more, we have entered yet another partnership — this time with local students.”
Townsend Police are now working with the National Honor Society at North Middlesex Regional High School to collect items to help create Chemo Care Packages for up to 1,500 local chemotherapy patients.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is recognized in October, but Townsend Police and the North Middlesex Regional School District are working overtime to help, with collection efforts continuing until Friday, Nov. 5.
“I’m excited and proud to see our students working with local police to help gather and distribute resources that will aid families and patients who are battling cancer,” said Superintendent Morgan. “I urge all community members to follow the example of our student and community leaders as we seek to provide a helping hand.”
PINK Revolution Breast Cancer Alliance of New Hampshire has a goal of creating 1,500 Chemo Care Packages for patients suffering from all forms of cancer, and distributing 800 gas gift cards to help those battling the disease with transportation to and from treatments.
Two National Honor Society students from North Middlesex Regional High School designed drop boxes that are now located at the Townsend Police Department and North Middlesex Regional High School. Those drop boxes are being used to collect items needed for the Chemo Care Packages.
Items needed include:
- Hand lotion (travel size)
- Lip Balm
- BPA-free travel water bottles
- 50×60 inch fleece throw blankets
- Women’s fleece socks (size 9-11)
- Gas gift cards for patients in need
