Townsend Police have identified the operator of a silver Toyota Prius that was involved in suspicious activity in Timberlee Park on August 10, 2014 in which the driver was seen in the area where children were playing acting suspiciously and when approached by an adult male the operator stated that he was lost. When located by police the operator was seen talking to a fifteen year-old female who was walking her dog in the area.

After extensive interviewing, this individual also admitted to being in the area of an eleven year-old female who was frightened by his suspicious activities while waiting for the school bus on Highland Street back in January of this year. This incident was relayed to parents of children attending schools in Townsend by the school and also received distribution through local media outlets which led to reports of this vehicle in several other incidents in the surrounding area.

Chief Erving Marshall said that although this individual has admitted to no wrongdoing and there is insufficient evidence to charge him with a crime at this time, he remains under investigation and is on our “radar screen.” His information has been relayed to other law enforcement agencies in the event that similar incidents occurred and no suspect was identified.

Chief Marshall also said that any incidents that occur or have occurred and not yet been reported to police involving this vehicle or any other suspicious incident be reported to police immediately.
